Happy New Year to everyone! I trust you all had a wonderful, restful, and full-of-fun holiday break!
In science this week we have started learning about the scientific method. Starting next week we will be studying the different steps in depth. At the end of next week we will be doing an M&M lab. If anyone could send in medium or large bags of regular M&Ms and bags of fun-sized M&Ms, that would be great. We will need an individual fun size for each student; there are about 80 students. We will also need enough regular bags of M&Ms for each student to have two candies for the experiment. Please let me know if you can help.
In social studies we have started studying Chapter 4 which is our second group of explorers. These are from Italy, France, and England. Our emphasis this week has been John Cabot, Giovanni Verrazano, Jacques Cartier, and Samuel de Champlain. One of these was eaten by Indian cannibals. Does your child know which one? Next week we will be learning about Henry Hudson, the Spanish Armada, and the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
There will be NO SCHOOL on January 16 for teacher work day.
